SOA Cleaning Solutions Program Adds 13 New Products

CRI Seal of ApprovalCRI is proud to announce the addition of 13 new cleaning solutions under the CRI Seal of Approval Program, upping the total to 222 products now certified in the program. The trend of more and more solutions earning certification as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA - approved products.

EcoLoab has five new products certified in the program and Peaches 'n Clean of America brings in another three along with two from ProChem and one each from Soft Surfaces Maintenance Services, Oreck Manufacturing and New Dawn Manufacturing.

EcoLab, based out of St. Paul, MN earned certification for its FaciliPro Carpet and Upholstery Prespray Cleaner (Pre-spray), FaciliPro Carpet & Upholstery Extraction Cleaner (In-tank), FaciliPro Dual-Action Spot Remover (Spot Remover), FaciliPro Carpet & Upholstery 3 in 1 Cleaner (In-tank) and FaciliPro Carpet & Upholstery 3 in 1 Cleaner (Pre-spray).

Peach 'n Clean of America, Inc., headquartered in Montgomery, AL, earned certification with the Peaches N Clean All Purpose Spotter (Spot Remover) , the Peaches N Clean Traffic Lane Cleaner (Pre-spray) and the Peaches N Clean Rinse Free (In-tank).

All Fiber Rinse (In-tank) and Ultrapac Pre-Treat with LVC (Pre-spray) were the two products from ProChem which join the list. ProChem is located in Chandler, AZ. Soft Surfaces Maintenance Services, out of Scarborough, Ontario, had its Soft N Safe (Spot remover) certified, while Oreck Manufacturing, out of Cookeville, TN, had the Full Release Carpet Cleaner (In-tank) and New Dawn Manufacturing Company, of Upper Marlboro, MD, its Triad product (in-tank).

Each of these products passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

Seven New Vacuum Cleaners Awarded SOA/Green Label Designation

Green Label/SOA Vacuums - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanA total of seven new vacuum cleaners have earned the designation as Seal of Approval/Green Label Approved vacuum cleaners. The new Seal of Approval/Green Label vacuum program is a tiered program with bronze level requiring a 10% improvement of cleaning performance over the existing Green Label program. A gold level machine must also meet a higher dust containment standard. The new gold standard requires that a machine has no more than 35 micrograms of dust particle emission. The old standard allowed for 100 micrograms of dust particle emission.

All seven machines were commercial units and the Royal MRY6500 led the way with its Gold designation. The machine is manufactured by Royal, Inc., out of Glenwillow, OH. Clarke Manufacturing, Springdale, AR, added two vacuums to the bronze list in the Comfort Pack 10 and the Comfort Pack 6. Kent- Euroclean, Plymouth, MN, added the Euroclean Back Vac 10 and Euroclean Back Vac 6 to the ronze list and Advance, Plymouth, MI, added the Adgility 10XP and the Adgility 6XP to the bronze list.

To earn the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label certification, vacuums must pass the following independent laboratory tests:

  • Soil removal - CRI uses NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to measure the precise amount of soil removed from carpet.
  • Dust containment - The vacuum must not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air, keeping dirt and dust locked tight in the vacuum - not escaping back into the air where it can be breathed.
  • Carpet texture retention - The vacuum must not affect the texture of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use.

There are now a total of 44 certified vacuums in the recently announced program.

CRI And Dalton Chamber Partner in SOA Initiative

CRI and the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce have joined hands in a cooperative agreement to educate Chamber members about the CRI Seal of Approval Testing Program as a way to better protect their carpet investments.

The Seal of Approval Program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning products and identifies those that remove certain stains and soil without damaging the carpet. The program evaluates spot removers and pre-spray and in-tank solutions, deep-cleaning extractors and vacuum cleaners.

In signing the agreement, the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce commits to providing its members with these educational and informational materials about the CRI Seal of Approval Testing Program, certified products and service providers.

To learn more about the Seal of Approval Program please visit CRI website or visit the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce website.

CRI Wants to "Help" Market SOA Products

CRI, with the help of Lew Migilore & Associates, has compiled a CRI fact sheet that SOA participants might find useful in marketing their SOA-approved products. The glossy contains maintenance "horror stories" in which various facilities lost a good bit of value in their carpet by having to replace it prematurely due to improper maintenance and the use of bad products.

In addition, anyone wishing to utilize CRI resources or personnel in their marketing efforts can do so by contacting James Beach. CRI President Werner Braun recently filmed an infomercial for Oreck Vacuum Cleaners in which he talked about the Seal of Approval process and what it means for the consumer. Oreck, in turn, markets its products as Seal of Approval certified.

TThe Carpet and Rug Institute is very careful that it does not endorse any individual products, but we are happy to recommend Seal of Approval products to the consumer over non-certified products.

If you have an interest, feel free to contact James Beach, our marketing director, and let's see if there is a way CRI can help you in promoting your product. Our goal is to educate enough consumers to the differences between SOA-approved and non-approved products that those within the program will see a real market shift towards their products.
